Our standard potato crates are available in two different sizes:
120 × 160 × 125 cm – suitable for approx. 1,300 kg of potatoes
110 × 140 × 125 cm – suitable for approx. 1,000 kg of potatoes, also known as the ton crate
All crates are produced as “suction wall crates”, meaning that the joints between the front and side panels are staggered. This design ensures extra strength and durability.
In addition to the sizes, there are two types of board configurations available:
Type A: narrow boards
Type B: wide boards (introduced as a standard option in 2024)
This way, you can always rely on a potato crate that perfectly matches your needs and operations.

Modified bottom deck (more or fewer bottom boards)
Use of concrete plywood panels in side walls
Additional braces in front and rear walls (V-bracing)
Delivery as a flat-pack, optionally ISPM-15 treated for worldwide export
Custom layouts or dimensions always possible

With this type of crate, false air intake is prevented thanks to the staggered joints on the front and side panels. The unique construction by Palletbedrijf van der Pol ensures optimal air distribution, allowing air to flow evenly along every part of the crate.
Palletbedrijf van der Pol has conducted extensive research into the optimal bonding for their crates. During the production of individual components (the pallet, side panels, and front panels), white wood adhesive 1KD4 is used, which dries clear. This adhesive is safe to handle and provides maximum strength when applied to dry components that fit closely together.
For the assembly of the crate itself, an adhesive is required that can fill small gaps while maintaining its strength. In the past, PU foaming glue was often used. However, this adhesive is toxic during application, and its foaming properties create air bubbles in the glue layer. These bubbles do not contribute to strength, so while the glue adheres well, the overall construction is not made stronger.
Ultimately, SLS frame adhesive was chosen—a new type of glue that is non-toxic, seawater-resistant, gap-filling, highly adhesive, and provides a permanently strong bond.
